This painting is inspired by not knowing who you authentically are and spending time in solitude to get understand yourself better.

These sailboats were swimming quietly by the waterfront in Spain. I was travelling alone because everything started to feel very overwhelming back home. There was a constant expectation I put on myself to do more and do better.

Travelling alone is so powerful because we meet a version of ourselves that we don’t know yet.

In our everyday lives, we’re taught that to fit in or feel a sense of belonging, we have to adjust ourselves to others. But in a foreign country, no one knows you. You can be completely yourself because you’re not expected to be a certain way.

You don’t have to like what they like, keep up with trends, buy the same “cool” things as them.

I learned during my solo travels that the peace I was constantly chasing was always within myself.

That sense of belonging and feeling enough comes from being our own best friend, understanding ourselves, knowing what we want and don’t want, what makes us happy and feel alive, what gives us purpose and comforting ourselves during difficult times.

The painting is inspired by our beliefs that we are not good enough. ”I’m such a failure, I’m so stupid, I’m not capable, I can’t do anything, I’m not lovable”

We learn to judge ourselves from a young age, comparing our grades, our progress, how much money we make, the house we live in, the clothes we have, the friends we make. It all feels like a competition with other people and the past version of ourselves.

We don’t know how to comfort ourselves when that negative inner voice criticises us. It’s on autopilot to put ourselves down and be our worst critic. Saying “you’re doing the best you can and that’s enough.” feels so uncomfortable and probably we won’t even believe it.

This painting is a reminder that the more kindness, care and understanding you give to yourself, the more of the light you can be for other people to do the same.

You are the sunlight that can make someone feel warm, loved and seen, starting with yourself.

This painting is inspired by our unconsious habits and not being intentional with our time and energy.

When we live in survival mode, we react to our environment and make every decision out of fear.

This means that we feel out of control and don’t think we can make a change for ourselves.

When uncomfortable feelings come up, we distract ourselves with any external thing we can find. Our phone, work, surround ourselves with people, shopping, eating, all the types of entertainment.

By learning mindfulness (being fully aware of everything happening in the present moment), we slowly understand that we are fully in control of how we spend our time, energy and how we respond to our environment.

This picnic setting is a beautiful representation of that.

To spend time in the present moment means connecting with the people around you, with your environment, with yourself, to notice the beauty that’s right in front of you.

How we spend each day is how we spend the rest of our lives.

The painting is inspired by perfectionism and the need to be constantly productive.

This constant feeling that if we’re not always productive, accomplishing something, tiring ourselves out to help other people, meeting other people’s expectations, doing something useful, improving ourselves, always presenting the best versions of ourselves, we’re simply not enough. It’s really tiring.

This fear of failure drives us to burn out and thinking we need to do more to feel okay. But actually, we need to take a step back and re-assess what’s happening in our minds.

Part of being human is that we’re not made to always be on the go. Nature exists to remind us that there are seasons in our lives where we do things at a slower pace, and other seasons are easy and feels like we’re flowing with energy.

The sailboat is a representation of the slowness and rest that we should be consciously doing to re-charge for the next season in life.

The painting is inspired by disconnecting with the external world and re-connecting with our heart, mind, purpose, and intentions.

Many of my eye-opening moments happened during a walk in the forest while I was travelling alone. There would be absolute silence, no birds, no sound of cars, no people, no noise whatsoever. All I could hear were my own footsteps and thoughts.

In our normal daily lives, we’re constantly on the go, distracted, consuming information and being pulled by the world and what it expects from us.

During those absolute silent moments in the forest, I experienced uncomfortableness and wished the silence would end. But I later realised how healing those walks were. It allowed me to analyse things that were stuck in my mind, emotions I had to process, I could figure out why I felt angry or sad without anyone telling me what they think. I learned to trust my inner voice and make changes according to what felt right to me.

The painting is inspired by being in awe of the abundance, nature and how fortunate we are to be here.

Just imagine yourself standing on the edge of the pier, staring out into the water, mountains, the stars and the bright moon that lights up the darkness. Take a deep breath and take it all in.

I often think about all the events that happened before us and how everything had to align in a certain way for us to exist.

Because of that, it’s difficult not to be grateful that we get to experience all of this: the stars that make the sky feel magical, the giant mountains that make us feel like we’re on top of the world, the ocean that we get to swim in that makes us feel alive and free, the moonlight that sparkles in the quiet waters, giving us a moment of peace and calmness.

It all happened for a reason so I hope the painting reminds you to make the most of every moment.

The painting is inspired by living a more intentional life.

Most of us live on autopilot and do things because we’ve been taught that we should.

School tells us how to go to the next level. Work tells us how we can live with the money they provide for us. Our parents tell us what’s right and wrong. Our friends tell us what we should like and what is not cool. Society tells us that if we want to succeed, ew have to follow their rules and then we move forward in life.

But I had an awakening when I felt completely hopeless and depressed. All those things that told me how I should live my life in the past had failed me.

That’s when I started to create my own path where I decided what success looked like, what I think is important, how I should spend my time, and what purpose I want to fulfill.

Every moment is a chance to re-set and re-align with the version of you that you want to become. You’re not tied or stuck to a certain way of living. That’s also a conditioning that can be undone. But you have to consciously decide how to live your life so that you feel fulfilled.

The little house in the countryside is a safe place away from the busyness and where you can escape to, to re-align your intentions.

The painting is inspired by reflecting on the struggles we’ve overcome.

For me, depression was the toughest but most transformative experience I overcame. Without it, I would not be here today as an artist who shares her healing journey through her artwork.

I was 17 years old, depressed because I had moved abroad and did not fit into my new environment. I was not doing well in school. I didn’t have any friends. I had a broken relationship with my family. I simply felt hopeless, alone and saw no future for myself.

I started self-harming and had thoughts about taking my own life. That’s when I was rushed to the psychiatric hospital to recover. It was an eye-opening experience but something I’m grateful that happened.

The layered mountains represent all the problems we’ve faced and we look back at them with no judgement or criticism, only self-compassion.

Those difficult moments in life are the things that shaped you into the kind and sensitive person you are today. They are not failures or setbacks. They were there to teach you a lesson about your capabilities and what matters to you the most.

The sunrise represents hope for the future, knowing that you’ll inspire someone else to overcome their struggles and share positivity through a huge transformation you’ve been through.

As we grow older, we focus so much on being more productive, climbing the corporate ladder, making more money, buy our “dream” home, keep up with the latest trends and constantly do things to impress people for approval.

If we don’t achieve all these things, we’re not happy, content or don’t feel good enough. It’s this constant need be better, have more and achieve the “perfect” life.

The only way to be truly and genuinely content with your life is to see the world through a child’s eyes.

They don’t have expectations or milestones they need to achieve. They are simply in the moment and see beauty in the simple every day things.

Our life is compiled of 100’s of normal every day moments and it’s our own choice to look at them with joy and gratitude to find magic in the mundane.
