The painting is inspired by our beliefs that we are not good enough, believing the negative thoughts we have about ourselves: ”I’m such a failure, I’m so stupid, I’m not capable, I can’t do anything, I’m not lovable”
We learn to judge ourselves from a young age, comparing our grades, our progress, how much money we make, the house we live in, the clothes we have, the friends we make. It all feels like a competition with other people and the past version of ourselves.
We don’t know how to comfort ourselves when that negative inner voice criticises us. It’s on autopilot to put ourselves down and be our worst critic. Saying “you’re doing the best you can and that’s enough.” feels so uncomfortable and probably we won’t even believe it.
This painting is a reminder that the more kindness, care and understanding you give to yourself, the more of the light you can be for other people to do the same.
