The painting is inspired by reflecting on the struggles we’ve overcome.
For me, depression was the toughest but most transformative experience I overcame. Without it, I would not be here today as an artist who shares her healing journey through her artwork.
I was 17 years old, depressed because I had moved abroad and did not fit into my new environment. I was not doing well in school. I didn’t have any friends. I had a broken relationship with my family. I simply felt hopeless, alone and saw no future for myself.
I started self-harming and had thoughts about taking my own life. That’s when I was rushed to the psychiatric hospital to recover. It was an eye-opening experience but something I’m grateful that happened.
The layered mountains represent all the problems we’ve faced and we look back at them with no judgement or criticism, only self-compassion.
Those difficult moments in life are the things that shaped you into the kind and sensitive person you are today. They are not failures or setbacks. They were there to teach you a lesson about your capabilities and what matters to you the most.
The sunrise represents hope for the future, knowing that you’ll inspire someone else to overcome their struggles and share positivity through a huge transformation you’ve been through.
